Terms of Service
Last updated
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are the agreement between you and MunchMeter for using the website and services at munchmeter.app (the “Service”). By creating an account, signing in, connecting an app, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
How we handle personal information is described in our Privacy Policy. That policy is part of this agreement.
1. Who we are
MunchMeter is a dish-first rating community operated at munchmeter.app. In these Terms, “MunchMeter,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean the operator of that Service. We have not published a separate registered company name or mailing address; questions go to support@munchmeter.app.
The header wordmark may read “Munch Meter.” The product name in these Terms is MunchMeter.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
If the law where you live requires a higher minimum age to create an online account or to consent to processing of personal information, that higher age applies. We do not knowingly offer the Service to children under 13.
3. Accounts and handles
Production sign-in uses Google. When you sign in, Google shares account details such as your email address, name, and profile photo URL so we can create or recognize your account. You are responsible for the Google account you use and for activity that happens while you are signed in.
Every account has a public handle. If you do not choose one, we generate a handle such as muncher_ followed by random characters. Handles are 3–24 characters and must match the pattern we publish in the product. Your handle is always visible to anyone who can see attribution for your ratings, even when you hide your real name, avatar, bio, or review text.
You may add an optional real name and a bio of up to 280 characters. You decide who can see those fields, your avatar, reviews, photos, taste stats, friends, favorites, and to-try lists, using the audience settings described in the Privacy Policy.
You must provide accurate information, keep it current, and not impersonate another person or take a handle you are not entitled to use. We may reclaim or change a handle that is unlawful, misleading, or needed to protect the Service.
4. The Service
MunchMeter lets signed-in members rate specific dishes at restaurants, write optional reviews, attach photos, save favorites and to-try lists, and share or withhold that history on purpose. Restaurant pages may show reviews, menus, and a map. Search and an explore map help you find restaurants that members have reviewed or that appear from Google Places.
Friends are an explicit request-and-accept relationship used as a privacy audience. There is no friends activity feed. We do not currently offer personalized recommendations or a way to follow food critics, even if older marketing pages mention those ideas.
The Service is provided at no charge today. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features. Restaurant listings, food items, and other shared catalog data are part of the Service for everyone, not your private property.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the ratings, reviews, photos, comments, and other material you submit (“Your Content”). You also keep responsibility for it.
To operate the Service, you grant MunchMeter a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt for formatting, display, and distribute Your Content as needed to provide the Service. That includes showing it to people allowed by your visibility settings, including the public when you choose “Anyone,” and providing it to connected apps you authorize.
The license ends when you delete the content or your account, except that we may keep copies that are already cached, backed up, or required for security, dispute, or legal reasons, and we may keep shared restaurant or dish records that are not personal to you.
You represent that you have the rights needed to grant this license, that Your Content is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and that it does not violate law or anyone else’s rights. Ratings and reviews are your opinions. They are not professional, medical, or food-safety advice, and they are not statements by MunchMeter.
If you restrict a review, your handle and star rating can still appear so restaurant scores stay stable. Other people’s comments on a review you delete are removed with that review.
6. Photos
You may attach up to four JPEG photos to a rating, each 2 MB or smaller, with a long edge of 2,048 pixels or less. We strip EXIF and similar embedded metadata before storage. Photos are stored in our hosting provider’s object storage and are served only through the Service after an access check.
A photo cannot be shown to a wider audience than the review it belongs to. You represent that you have the right to upload each photo, including permission from recognizable people, and that the photo is not illegal, sexually exploitative, or taken from someone else’s account without permission.
7. Friends and invitations
You can invite someone to be friends by entering their email address. That discloses the address to us so we can send or record the invitation. We send at most one invite email to the same inbox (including common plus-tag aliases) in a 24-hour window. Only send invitations to people who would reasonably expect to hear from you. Do not use invitations to spam, harass, or collect other people’s addresses.
Either person can decline or later remove a friendship. Removing a friend changes who can see content you limited to friends; it does not delete the underlying ratings.
8. Connected apps
If we enable it, you may connect third-party applications such as hosted Claude or ChatGPT connectors through our Model Context Protocol (“MCP”) interface. Before access is granted you will see a consent screen. User connectors are read-only: they can read restaurants, ratings, and profiles you are already allowed to see, and they must respect your privacy settings. They cannot post reviews, change friends, or act as an administrator.
You can revoke a grant from Settings MCP. Revocation invalidates that app’s tokens. Administrators can disable MCP globally or for individual users. Once data has left our Service through a connection you approved, that third party’s terms and privacy policy govern how they use it. We do not control Claude, ChatGPT, or other connected clients.
Admin MCP, when enabled for administrators, can create, update, and delete data in the same scope as the admin dashboard. Approve it only for clients you trust.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Break the law or encourage others to break it.
- Post content that is harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative, violent in a prohibited way, or that invades someone’s privacy.
- Impersonate another person, misrepresent your affiliation, or manipulate ratings, likes, comments, or reports.
- Scrape, overload, or interfere with the Service, or access it except through the interfaces we provide, including authorized MCP clients.
- Upload malware, attempt to gain unauthorized access, or probe another member’s private data.
- Use the Service to send spam or to collect personal information without permission.
- Reverse engineer the Service except where the law gives you that right and you first ask us in writing.
10. Reporting and moderation
You may report a review or photo for spam, harassment, hate, sexual content, violence, privacy, impersonation, or another reason. We may review reports, hide or delete content, restrict features, or ban an account. A ban can hide a member’s content from public views while the records remain until the account is deleted.
We are not obligated to monitor every submission. We may act or decline to act in our discretion, including to protect members, the Service, or to comply with law. If you believe content infringes your copyright, use the process in Copyright complaints below.
11. Our intellectual property
The Service—including its software, design, trademarks, logo, and documentation—is owned by MunchMeter or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. These Terms give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose. They do not transfer ownership.
Restaurant names, menus, maps, and place data may be supplied by Google or other third parties and remain subject to their rights and terms.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free license to use them without obligation to you.
12. Third-party services
The Service depends on other providers, including Google for sign-in, Maps, and Places; Cloudflare for hosting, database, file storage, and background jobs; and Resend for transactional email such as data-export notices. Their terms apply to their services. When you use maps or place search, Google’s terms for those products also apply.
Links to restaurants, maps, or other sites are provided for convenience. We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for them.
13. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that restaurant information, menus, maps, hours, or member ratings are complete, current, or accurate. Place data often comes from Google Places or from members. Food can cause illness or allergic reactions; you are responsible for your own dining decisions.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or free of errors. Outages, data loss, and unauthorized access can still occur despite our efforts.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MunchMeter and its operators, contributors, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business, arising from the Service or these Terms, even if we were advised of the possibility.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of one hundred U.S. dollars (US $100) or the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim. Because the Service is free, that amount is typically US $100.
Some places do not allow certain limitations. In those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted.
15. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify MunchMeter and its operators against claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, your connected apps, or your violation of these Terms or of another person’s rights, except to the extent we caused the claim by our own willful misconduct.
16. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@munchmeter.app that includes:
- A description of the copyrighted work.
- The location of the material on the Service, such as a URL.
- Your name, mailing address, phone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We may remove or disable access to material and, in appropriate cases, terminate accounts of repeat infringers. If we took down your content and you believe that was a mistake, you may send a counter-notice to the same address with the information the law requires.
17. Suspension, deletion, and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account and the personal data attached to it, sign in and open Settings → Account, then type your email to confirm. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Shared restaurant listings stay. We keep a hashed record that the deletion happened; it cannot restore the account.
If you cannot use self-service, contact support@munchmeter.app. The last remaining administrator cannot delete their own account until another administrator is appointed.
We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create risk for other members, or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive—including ownership, licenses already exercised, disclaimers, limits on liability, and indemnity—survive termination.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms by posting a new version on this page and changing the “Last updated” date. If a change is material, we will also try to give reasonable notice, such as a notice in the Service or an email to the address on your account. Continued use after the updated Terms take effect is acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.
19. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a court must apply the law of a particular state, the parties agree that California law applies to that extent, except where the consumer-protection laws of your place of residence require otherwise.
You and MunchMeter agree that courts in the United States have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms or the Service, unless a mandatory law gives you the right to sue in your home courts. This section does not limit any non-waivable consumer rights.
20. General
These Terms are the entire agreement between you and MunchMeter about the Service and replace any prior agreements about the same subject. If a court finds a provision unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a reorganization or transfer of the Service. There are no third-party beneficiaries except as stated for indemnified operators.
These Terms were last updated on 2026-09-17 and do not constitute legal advice to you about your own situation.
